Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund (JDRF) Walk

My neice, Hadleigh, was diagnosed with Type I diabetes when she was in Kindergarten. She is now 10 years old and in fifth grade. She wears a pump and knows how to enter her carb count into it so that the correct amount of insulin goes into her bloodstream. She is incredibly informed and has even given a public speech about her diabetes experience. With the help of her mom, Shelby, she is very active in the JDRF and always has one of the biggest teams at the JDRF walk in Nashville. This year, Jeremy, Ava, and I were honored to be on TEAM HADDIE for the first time in Murfreesboro, TN.

The JDRF walk was kind of like a fair. Different tents were set up with activities for all ages. Vanderbilt had a tent set up to distribute information about diabetes. And other tents were set up to distribute free meters (to test blood sugar) and products that are up and coming. Jeremy talked to a representative about a prescription drug that could be better than the one he is taking. There is so much information at the walk! After the fair part is over, everyone walks a mile lap. It was really a neat experience! Even though we don't get to see Hadleigh often, we are extremely proud of her for all her hard work and dedication! Hopefully, one day there will be a cure!

Hadleigh, Ava, and the Coke bottle :)

Ava and the Pate Men: Brew, Jeremy, and Roy. When we got to the walk, Ava went straight to Uncle Brew and stayed there for almost the whole time! She loves him!

The JDRF walk was a superhero theme this year, so it was only fitting that Jeremy wore a mask. (He also designed the way cool shirt) :) If you ask me, Berrie is the real hero handling her dog in the background!

 Poppy feeding Ava her bottle

Ava stayed all snuggled up to him while she drank her bottle. It was so sweet!

 Sweet feet!

 Happy day!
